The amazing good news to come out yesterday was that PC Simon Harwood is finally going to face trial for the brutal assault on Ian Tomlinson at the G20 Protests of last year. The Crown Prosecution Service had a complete change of direction from their earlier position of 2010.
“The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) announced in July 2010 that no charges would be brought against the officer, PC Simon Harwood, because the disagreement between the pathologists meant prosecutors could not demonstrate a clear causal link between the death and the alleged assault” – Wikipedia
Freddie Patel was the Home office Coroner that was appointed to investigate the cause of Ian Tomlinson’s death. It has since emerged that Freddy Patel the Home Office coroner has made mistakes before. One has to wonder whether Freddy Patel was chosen because they new he would come down on the side of the police.
Police Abuses are growing
What is interesting about the Simon Harwood case, is that it is not an isolated occurrence. Police Brutality seems to be getting worse in the UK. Hardly a month goes by without reports of Police abusing their powers in numerous ways.
- There was the Raoul Moat Killing by an unauthorised weapon.
- The Northumbrain Policeman supplying steriods.
- Police abuse of UK Uncut protesters
- Undercover cops infiltrating protest movements.
- Policeman fails to stop at accident he casues.
- Fiona Pilkington Case
- North Yorkshire Police’s top officer, Grahame Maxwell, is charged with gross misconduct over his actions last year. He attempted to ensure a relative got a police job.
- Nicholas Stone, 40 offered sex whilst at work instead of driving tickets.

Following the controversy over Police undercover spies, Shami Chakrabarti, Director of Liberty, said:
“We can’t applaud pro-democracy campaigners in Egypt whilst attacking peaceful dissent at home. Recent revelations of abusive infiltration into non-violent protest movements should shame every democrat in Britain. In past years, some senior officers accepted politicians’ promises of ever-more unchecked power. At last, one of the most important voices in British policing calls for greater legal restraint on intrusive surveillance. We agree with Sir Hugh that such an important Service should be accountable not to politics but to the law.”
The UK Police have paid out of 44 million due to misconduct charges brought against them.

I would like to think that there are some good police men and women out there but it is looking very unlikely. The reason being is people are attracted to the Police force for the job security. One can not be fired as a member of the Police force. Is this right? Even politicians are held to account, but the police are a law unto themselves. Question:- How long are we the people going to put up with these disgusting abuses?
