WordPress is a victim of its own success. The reason is this, because it is open source and free, many people use it. And out of the box it will run pretty OK. But the problem is there are quite a few vulnerabilities in WordPress Security. The more you blog, the more you will be noticed, and sooner or later hackers and spambots will be attracted. The probelm is this : - WordPress in the right hands is an excellent tool for delivering results on the search engines. But this success also attracts hackers. Hackers that use google to locate easy prey. What they do is look for classic back doors and weaknesses to attack.

The comments page can be a pain in WordPress. It's great if comments are genuine and from real people. But often they can come from Spam bots just looking for easy back links. Accepting comments from users like this can damage one's own ranking. One should always check the link that the back link points towards.

But many clients don't want comments on their web sites, although they can be easily moderated, but equally they can be deactivated globally, or on specific pages & posts.

But don't be put off by the occasional problems of WordPress, they are relatively small and easily defended against. Prevention is the best form of defense, along with regular backups, that have been tested and proven to work.
